Job Summary
The Lab Technician – Pharmaceutical Chemistry supports teaching, practical training, and laboratory operations within the Pharmaceutical Chemistry department at Chettinad Hospitals. The role involves preparing laboratory experiments, maintaining instruments and chemicals, ensuring laboratory safety, and supporting faculty and students during academic and research activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare chemicals, reagents, buffers, and solutions for practical classes and laboratory experiments
- Set up laboratory instruments and equipment for pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry practicals
- Assist faculty during student practical sessions, demonstrations, and project work
- Operate and maintain instruments such as UV spectrophotometer, pH meter, analytical balance, hot air oven, magnetic stirrer, and related lab equipment
- Maintain accurate records including stock registers, equipment logs, calibration records, and laboratory documentation
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and safe handling of chemicals and solvents
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate for timely procurement of laboratory consumables
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and follow safety, GLP, and institutional guidelines
- Support audits, inspections, and accreditation-related activities
- Assist in student projects, research activities, and departmental academic tasks
Key Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical chemistry laboratory practices
- Familiarity with chemical handling and laboratory safety procedures
- Understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records
- Basic computer skills (MS Office)
- Positive coordination skills with faculty and students
- Organized, responsible, and willing to learn
Qualification & Experience
- DMLT or B.Sc (Chemistry / Pharmaceutical Chemistry / Life Sciences) – Mandatory
- 0–3 years of experience in academic / research/hospital laboratory preferred
- Freshers with strong practical knowledge can also apply
