Team Leader of Platform & Backend Engineering

This is a remote position. We are looking for an experienced Team Leader with deep expertise in Platform Engineering and Backend Engineering. You must have 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team lead capacity. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5 to 12 engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will bridge the gap between infrastructure reliability and application performance, ensuring our platform scales efficiently while delivering robust backend services. Work Location: Remote from India (Strictly open to candidates currently residing in India only). You will bridge the gap between infrastructure reliability and application performance, ensuring our platform scales efficiently while delivering robust backend services.Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Architecture ●Define and drive the technical vision for platform infrastructure and backend systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives. ●Design scalable, resilient architectures that support high availability, fault tolerance, and seamless deployments across distributed systems. ●Establish and enforce engineering standards, code review practices, and architectural decision records (ADRs) for the team. ●Evaluate and adopt new technologies, frameworks, and tools that improve developer productivity and system reliability. Platform Engineering ●Oversee the design and management of CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi). ●Drive the adoption of observability practices including monitoring, logging, and alerting using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar. ●Champion internal developer platforms (IDPs) that streamline the developer experience, reducing friction from code commit to production deployment. ●Ensure platform security, compliance, and cost optimization across cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Backend Engineering ●Lead the development of high-performance APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures using languages such as Go, Python, Java, or Node.js. ●Ensure backend systems are designed for scalability, maintainability, and testability with proper separation of concerns. ●Oversee database design, optimization, and data pipeline integration (SQL and NoSQL databases, message queues, caching layers). ●Drive best practices around API design (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), versioning, documentation, and contract testing. Team Leadership & Delivery ●Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5 to 12 engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. ●Manage sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and delivery timelines in partnership with product and project management. ●Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations. Identify skill gaps and create growth plans. ●Remove blockers, facilitate cross-team collaboration, and ensure smooth communication between engineering, product, and stakeholders. Requirements ●Must have 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team lead capacity. ●Strong hands-on experience in both platform/infrastructure engineering and backend application development. ●Proven track record of designing and operating production-grade distributed systems at scale. ●Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code tooling. ●Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Go, Python, Java, TypeScript/Node.js) and familiarity with modern backend frameworks. ●Experience with CI/CD systems, GitOps workflows, and deployment automation. ●Strong understanding of networking, security, and reliability engineering principles. Nice to Have ●Experience building or contributing to Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) or Platform-as-a-Service solutions. ●Familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and API gateway management. ●Background in site reliability engineering (SRE) practices, including SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets. ●Contributions to open-source projects or community engineering initiatives. ●Experience in multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments.
