Job Overview: Senior Associate – Public Policy (Government Relations)
The Senior Associate – Public Policy will play a key role in monitoring and analysing government policies, driving advocacy efforts, and strengthening the organisation's engagement with government bodies and industry stakeholders. The role involves preparing policy briefs, participating in consultations, coordinating internally for policy submissions, and maintaining strong relationships with ministries, regulators, and think tanks. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and hands-on experience in government relations, enabling effective alignment of policy initiatives with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Policy Research & Analysis:
o Track and analyse government policies, regulations, and legislative developments relevant to the organisation's focus areas.
o Prepare policy briefs, notes, and impact assessments with proper analysis within timelines.
o Maintain a repository of key policy documents and insights.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:
o Build and maintain relationships with government ministries, regulators, industry bodies, and think tanks.
o Support participation in consultations, working groups, and public hearings.
o Ensure timely representation of the organisation's views through submissions, position papers, or meetings.
• Internal Coordination & Support:
o Work with leadership and business units to gather inputs for policy advocacy.
o Translate technical and operational inputs into policy-friendly language for external submissions.
o Ensure cross-functional updates on policy risks and opportunities.
• Monitoring & Reporting:
o Maintain a tracker of key government schemes, policy timelines, and advocacy initiatives.
o Measure and report progress on policy engagement (e.g., number of submissions, meetings, events attended).
• Knowledge Sharing:
o Organise internal sessions to brief teams on evolving policies and compliance requirements.
o Identify training opportunities, workshops, or conferences to build team knowledge on policy.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in government relations, public policy, and business development. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes at state and central levels.
• Proven ability to engage with ministries, chambers of commerce, and policymakers.
• Experience in handling in-person meetings with key stakeholders.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strategic thinking and the ability to align public policy with business objectives.
• Strong relationship-building skills with ministries, chambers, and other stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical skills to assess the impact of legislative and regulatory changes.
