Founding Backend Engineer : Hyderabad (Immediate) 10+ years

We’re hiring a Lead Backend Engineer / Founding engineer (Immediate) Nova is a communication intelligence company. We build systems that understand how humans communicate, not just what they say. Today, Nova is applied to dating. But the real vision is much bigger: emotionally aware messaging, intent clarity, boundary detection, trust signals, and respectful exits in human conversations. If you believe modern communication tools are fast but emotionally blind, this is the problem we’re solving. We are at a critical stage. There is a soft investor commitment of up to $300K, which can be closed within 3 months once the MVP is live. Speed and execution matter right now. This is an immediate requirement. Role Overview We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Backend Engineer / Tech Co-Founder to take full ownership of Nova’s backend and core system architecture. This is not a managerial or advisory role. This is a build-first, ship-fast role. You will be responsible for architecting, building, and stabilizing the MVP backend end-to-end, and working closely with the founder on product decisions. This role requires full commitment. What This Role Actually Needs You are deeply hands-on and comfortable coding for long hours when required (up to ~60 hours/week during critical phases). You move fast, take ownership, and don’t wait for perfect specs. You are decisive and execution-oriented. You are comfortable with startup chaos and tight timelines. This can be stressful. It is not a 9-to-5 role. But if you enjoy building something meaningful from zero, it will be worth it. What You’ll Work On Designing and building Nova’s backend architecture from scratch APIs, databases, auth, matching logic, messaging systems Scalable, production-grade backend foundations Rapid iterations based on real user feedback Working closely with product and UX to translate vision into systems Tech stack is flexible, but Firebase / Supabase / modern cloud stacks are expected for MVP speed. What We’re Looking For 10+ years of backend or full-stack experience in product-focused roles Strong experience building scalable web or mobile backends Deep understanding of APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure Hands-on mobile experience is a plus AI/ML exposure is a strong plus, especially NLP or behavioral systems Startup mindset: you code, you decide, you execute Experience at product-driven companies (Microsoft, Google, or similar) is a bonus, not a requirement Equity & Compensation This is a co-founder-level role. Competitive equity up to 3%, based on experience, ownership, and commitment. Cash compensation will align post-funding.
