Role Overview: This role focuses on field implementation and monitoring of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in paddy cultivation along with regenerative agriculture practices across West Bengal. It requires robust field presence, farmer engagement, accurate data collection, and coordination with local institutions to scale climate‑smart, low‑emission agriculture.
Key Responsibilities:
AWD Implementation & Water Management
Implement and monitor Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) practices using field water tubes and other monitoring tools.
Conduct regular field visits to track water levels, irrigation cycles, soil moisture , and farmer adherence to AWD protocols.
Guide farmers on irrigation timing, drainage cycles, and water-saving techniques to reduce methane emissions.
Regenerative Agriculture Practices
Support adoption of regenerative practices such as soil health improvement, residue management, organic amendments, crop diversification, and reduced tillage .
Demonstrate and promote low-input, climate-resilient farming aligned with carbon project methodologies.
Monitor field performance and document improvements in soil health and crop outcomes.
Farmer Engagement & Capacity Building
Work closely with farmers, FPOs, SHGs, and cooperatives across Murshidabad and nearby blocks.
Conduct trainings, demonstrations, and village-level meetings on AWD, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable crop management.
Provide continuous technical support to farmers throughout the crop cycle.
Data Collection & Digital Monitoring
Collect accurate field data on water usage, irrigation frequency, soil conditions, crop performance, and farmer adoption .
Use mobile apps, GPS tools, and digital platforms for real-time monitoring and reporting.
Maintain structured datasets required for carbon project MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification).
Stakeholder Coordination
Coordinate with local government bodies, irrigation departments, Panchayats, NGOs, and community leaders to support project rollout.
Build trust-based relationships with rural communities to ensure smooth implementation.
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain documentation required for Verra, Gold Standard, or other carbon certification frameworks .
Ensure all field activities comply with agricultural norms, environmental standards, and carbon project guidelines .
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture is strongly preferred ;
degrees in Horticulture, Rural Development, or related fields may also be considered.
1–3 years of field experience in agriculture, irrigation management, or rural development.
Understanding of AWD, regenerative agriculture, climate-smart agriculture , and sustainable farming systems.
Experience working with farmers in rural West Bengal, is highly preferred.
Proficiency in field data collection, digital tools, and monitoring systems .
Strong communication skills in English, Bengali and Hindi .
Willingness to travel extensively across India.
