Endoscopy Technician

Reports To: Gastroenterologist / OT Manager / Nursing Superintendent Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary: The Endoscopy Technician supports physicians and nursing staff during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The role is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and sterilizing endoscopic equipment, assisting during procedures, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining strict infection control standards. Key Responsibilities: 1. Procedure Preparation • Prepare procedure rooms and ensure all necessary instruments and supplies are available. • Set up and test endoscopic equipment prior to procedures. • Verify patient information and assist with positioning 2. During Procedures Assist physicians during procedures such as: • Upper GI endoscopy (gastroscopy) • Colonoscopy • Sigmoidoscopy • ERCP (if trained) • Bronchoscopy (in some hospitals) • Monitor and document equipment usage. • Handle biopsy specimens according to protocol. • Support nursing staff in monitoring patient condition. 3. Equipment & Sterilization • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopes following hospital infection-control guidelines. • Perform leak testing and function checks on scopes. • Maintain proper storage of equipment. • Report equipment malfunctions for repair. 4. Infection Control & Safety • Follow strict aseptic and sterilization protocols. • Ensure compliance with hospital safety standards. • Proper disposal of biohazard materials. 5. Documentation & Administrative Duties • Maintain accurate procedure logs and equipment tracking. • Assist in inventory control of endoscopy supplies. • Prepare documentation for maintenance and quality assurance. Qualifications: • Diploma or Certificate in Endoscopy Technology, Medical Technology, or related healthcare field. • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience in a hospital or surgical setting preferred. • Knowledge of infection control standards. Skills Required: • Strong knowledge of endoscopic equipment handling. • Attention to detail and high standard of cleanliness. • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment. • Good communication and teamwork skills. • Physical ability to stand for long periods.
