Senior Mechanical Engineer – Gears & Power Transmission

Key Roles & ResponsibilitiesDesign & Development • Lead end-to-end design of gears, shafts, bearings, housings, splines, and associated power transmission components. • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, technical drawings, and Bill of Materials (BoM) using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, SOLIDWORKS). • Define part geometry and specifications in line with performance requirements, tolerance standards, and quality guidelines. • Apply knowledge of gear types (spur, helical, bevel, planetary), bearing arrangements, seals, lubrication methods, and power transmission design principles. • Mathematical calculation & Material selection. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Work closely with manufacturing, quality, test, and procurement teams to ensure design intent is maintained through production and assembly. • Collaborate with suppliers and external partners for component development, sourcing, validation, and implementation. • Communicate engineering findings, design changes, and product status. Testing & Validation • Support prototype testing, validation, and verification of transmission sub-systems including torque capacity, efficiency, fatigue, and durability. • Analyze field and test data for continuous improvement and problem resolution. • Define corrective actions based on root-cause analysis and ensure sustainable design updates. Project & Compliance Responsibilities • Lead engineering efforts on assigned projects, ensuring adherence to schedules, cost targets, and technical specifications. • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and internal quality systems. • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, design history files, change orders, and technical records. Qualifications & Experience While specific requirements may vary by company, typical qualifications include: • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. • Significant professional experience (typically 5–12+ years) in gearbox design, power transmission systems, driveline engineering, or related mechanical design roles. • Proficiency in CAD software and analysis tools relevant to transmission design. • Deep understanding of GD&T, DFMEA, DFM, DFS, and manufacturing processes. • Strong problem-solving skills, leadership ability, and effective communication skills.
