Job Description:
Medline has an immediate opening for an experienced Sr. HANA DBA for its SAP Run Team. There are multiple multi-terabyte HANA databases to manage within the company for SAP Platform. The HANA DBA will be part Run Team (Basis Team). He will provide the highest level of technical knowledge and consulting to ensure HANA systems have the highest availability and steer the way to incorporate checks and alerts for a smooth operation of SAP HANA databases. He will need to have excellent level of troubleshooting skills with any performance issue or system hang that the database is encountering.
Responsibilities & Work Experience:
• Lead and actively participate in critical incident management, including Production Down and P1 scenarios, coordinating with technical and functional teams to restore systems to normalcy at the earliest.
• Act as the primary escalation point for SAP HANA–related issues, providing expert guidance and hands‑on support to the Basis team and other stakeholders as needed.
• Monitor, maintain, and continuously improve SAP HANA system health and performance, proactively identifying risks and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Design, configure, and maintain system monitoring and alerting frameworks to detect potential issues early and drive proactive system stability improvements.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex SAP HANA issues, including CPU, memory, performance bottlenecks, and system availability concerns.
• Review and validate technical solutions and architecture designs from a HANA administration perspective, ensuring alignment with SAP best practices and standards.
• Administer SAP HANA systems using SAP HANA Cockpit and HANA Studio, including system onboarding, configuration, and SSO enablement.
• Plan and execute SAP HANA installations, upgrades, and landscape maintenance, including DDBoost upgrades where applicable.
• Implement and manage HANA backup and recovery strategies, including Backint configuration, backup/restore operations, and system refreshes for non‑production landscapes.
• Execute and optimize SAP HANA table and data management techniques, such as data compression, table partitioning, NSE, and load/unload strategies to enhance performance and resource utilization.
• Drive ongoing performance tuning initiatives using tools and reports such as EWA, SAP Notes, TPO, TPV, and other SAP‑recommended methodologies.
• Establish, test, and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) and High Availability (HA) plans, ensuring business continuity and compliance with recovery objectives.
• Support integration of SAP HANA with remote and dependent systems, ensuring stability and performance across the landscape.
• Provide day‑to‑day Basis support when required, including transport migrations, system refreshes, RFC troubleshooting, and ABAP/Java stack coordination.
• Mentor and develop team members by building HANA technical skills, sharing best practices, driving process improvements, and fostering operational excellence.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with business and IT stakeholders during critical issues, setting expectations and driving resolution strategies.
• Be accountable for the quality and performance of team deliverables, including oversight of internal team members and managed subcontractors.
Required Skills:
• 6+ years of experience as an SAP HANA Database Administrator, with at least 4 years of hands‑on responsibility managing multiple SAP production environments.
• Strong expertise in SAP landscape administration, including NetWeaver–based systems such as ECC, BW, PI/PO, SCM, Enterprise Portal, and Solution Manager, with working knowledge of ABAP and Java stacks.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with SAP HANA installation, migration, and administration, including integration of HANA within complex SAP landscapes.
• Proven experience across key HANA domains, including:
• HANA Security (users, roles, authorizations)
• HANA SLT configuration
• Suite on HANA and BW on HANA migrations
• System configuration, health checks, and monitoring
• Strong operational experience using SAP transactions, SAP HANA Studio, and SAP HANA Cockpit to monitor system health, availability, and performance.
• Demonstrated capability in troubleshooting complex HANA issues by analyzing trace files, system logs, and diagnostic data.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including writing custom queries and modifying SAP standard queries (e.g., SAP Note 1969700) for in‑depth performance and issue analysis.
• Hands‑on experience addressing advanced HANA performance topics such as:
• Garbage collection
• Blocking transactions
• Expensive SQL statements
• SQL hints and execution plan analysis
• Experience with SAP HANA System Replication, including setup, monitoring, issue resolution, and controlled takeover activities.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems, with the ability to work effectively across heterogeneous environments.
• Ability to lead and drive critical incident calls, particularly for complex and high‑impact SAP HANA production issues.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work effectively in ambiguous or high‑pressure environments, break down complex problems, and drive resolution plans to closure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging appropriately for technical teams, management, and business stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of common enterprise tools such as SharePoint, OneNote, MobaXterm, SAP HANA Cockpit, and Capture & Replay to support collaboration, documentation, and troubleshooting.
• Willingness to participate in rotational on‑call support and provide occasional weekend coverage as required for production stability.
Educational Qualification
• Four-year degree with a specialization in Computer Science / Electronics with good academics
