About Soul Forest
Soul Forest is in the business of transforming barren lands into biodiverse forests through an 80:20 model—80% nature reserve and 20% eco-sensitive living, wellness, and livelihoods. Our 200-acre pilot in Veltoor, Telangana, is a living demonstration of restoration, regeneration, and long-duration ecological thinking.
Founded by Earthshot Prize–winning climate entrepreneurs, Soul Forest aims to scale this model to 100,000 acres globally over the next decade.
At Soul Forest, visual storytelling is not just content production. It is how we document truth, track real impact, and help people build a relationship with land, our planet, biodiversity and life.
About the Role
This is a full-time, on-ground cinematographic storytelling role for someone who is as comfortable documenting forest growth at sunrise as they are crafting a compelling reel or YouTube video.
As the Photographer & Filmmaker for Nature & Restoration, you will:
• Document the day-to-day life and long-term transformation of the Soul Forest project at Veltoor, Telangana, and other future Soul Forest projects.
• Document and translate real on-ground work into meaningful video content for social platforms.
• Capture community engagement at project sites and in Hyderabad.
• Balance patient observation with platform-relevant storytelling.
This is an execution-heavy, learning-focused role with scope to grow into a visual content leadership position over time. You will work closely with the Marketing Lead and the wider Soul Forest team to ensure visuals and films are both honest and effective.
This is a high-collaboration role, not a solo creator position.
What You’ll Do
A. On-ground documentation (core responsibility)
• Spend at least 3-4 days a week at the Veltoor project site, documenting:
• Forest growth, seasonal change, and land transformation
• Restoration activities and daily work on the ground
• People, processes, and life at the project site
• Coordinate closely with on-ground teams to understand and capture what’s unfolding.
• Build a long-term visual archive of Soul Forest’s ecological journey.
B. Social video content creation (Reels, Shorts, YouTube)
• Create:
• Short-form: Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.
• Long-form: YouTube videos (process films, explainers, event documentation) from on-ground footage, community engagements, and team expertise.
• Think intentionally about framing, pacing, and narrative for different platforms without compromising authenticity.
• Work with the Marketing team on story direction and content flow.
• Balance timely and quick social content with deeper, slower storytelling.
C. Nature, landscape & human stories
• Capture documentary-style and cinematic visuals of:
• Landscapes, trees, soil, water, wildlife
• People working on and living with the land
• Community moments and shared experiences
• Avoid over-staging—this role prioritises real moments over artificial setups.
D. Events & community engagement
• Cover events, workshops, talks, and gatherings across Veltoor and Hyderabad.
• Create event highlight videos, photo sets, and social-ready edits.
• Capture both atmosphere and substance—people, conversations, intent.
E. Editing & post-production
• Edit short-form and long-form videos aligned with Soul Forest’s tone and values.
• Edit photo sets for social media, newsletters, reports, and internal use.
• Maintain consistency in colour grading, mood, and visual language.
• Collaborate on feedback cycles and iterate thoughtfully.
F. Drone & aerial documentation
• Assist with and gradually take ownership of drone-based landscape documentation.
• Capture aerial views, time-lapses, and seasonal progress of the land.
• Follow safety, legal, and operational protocols strictly.
G. Data & archive management
• Systematically organise raw footage, edits, and photo libraries.
• Maintain clean file naming, tagging, and folder structures.
• Ensure weekly drive updates and long-term retrievability of material.
What we are looking for
• 1–3 years of experience in visual storytelling, videography, cinematography, or content creation.
• A proven track record of photo and video storytelling, demonstrated through an active Instagram, YouTube channel, or equivalent platform.
• Consistent visual work that shows narrative thinking and continuity, not just isolated or one-off clips.
• A genuine love for nature, wildlife, ecology, and land-based work (this is essential).
• Strong instinct for visual storytelling, beyond technical camera or editing skills.
• Comfortable creating both long-term documentation and social-first video content (Reels, Shorts, YouTube).
• Able to think in stories—before, during, and after shooting—balancing planning with responsiveness.
• Comfortable working outdoors for long hours in varied field conditions.
• Familiar with publishing workflows and formats for Instagram and YouTube.
• Clear communicator—able to share ideas, pitch story directions, and coordinate with teams across languages.
• Open to feedback, willing to learn, and interested in growing into greater ownership over time.
• Looking to build a long-term creative journey, not just accumulate short-term projects.
Who Should Skip This
This role is NOT for you if you:
• Prefer studio-only or highly controlled shooting environments.
• Want a fast-paced influencer-style content role without storytelling depth.
• Dislike being outdoors for extended periods.
• Struggle with patience, consistency, or long-term documentation.
• Do not actively publish your work or see value in sharing visual stories with an audience.
• Prefer working alone rather than as part of a close-knit team.
• See this as a short-term gig.
Why Work With Us?
• Storytelling that matters: Document real ecological restoration and community effort.
• Nature as classroom: Learn directly from land, seasons, and long-duration thinking.
• Creative & professional growth: Build both social-first content and long-form visual narratives.
• Long-term vision: Grow with an organisation committed to restoration at scale.
• Creative ownership: Over time, help shape Soul Forest’s visual archive and voice.
