Lab Technician / Assistant - Dept of Biomedical Sciences

A Lab Technician in the Department of Biomedical Sciences supports scientific research and academic teaching by managing laboratory operations, maintaining equipment, and assisting with experiments. To prepare materials for classes, ensure safety compliance, log data, and, depending on the department (e.g., engineering, biology), handle specialized, complex machinery or chemical samples. JD Includes: • Laboratory Maintenance: Setting up, cleaning, and calibrating equipment to keep it in working order. • Academic Support: Assisting faculty in preparing for and conducting laboratory classes for students. • Research Assistance: Supporting researchers with experiments, data collection, recording observations, and organizing samples. • Safety Compliance: Ensuring all personnel adhere to safety protocols, managing hazardous materials, and maintaining a clean environment. • Inventory Management: Managing laboratory supplies, reagents, and maintaining equipment logbooks or dead stock registers. Required Skills and Qualifications • Education: A degree in a relevant scientific field (biology, chemistry, physics, or engineering) is typical with DMLT. • Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments (e.g., microscopes, spectrometers, or, for engineering, Arduino/PLC). • Competencies: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, safety consciousness, and basic computer skills for data entry. • Physical Ability: Capability to handle moderate physical activity, including standing for long periods.
