Responsibilities
Job purpose
The Service Transition cum Release Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the transition of new or changed IT services into the production environment with minimal disruption. The role ensures that releases are properly controlled and that services meet business expectations. This position requires strong experience in ITIL practices, release & deployment management, and hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud services.
Key Responsibilities: Service Transition:
• Lead and manage end-to-end service transition activities for new or changed services.
• Ensure that all service transition deliverables are completed as per defined quality standards and timelines.
• Coordinate with project managers, architects, development, operations, and security teams to ensure smooth transition of services to BAU (Business As Usual).
• Develop and maintain transition plans, risk assessments, and readiness checklists.
• Conduct Post Implementation Reviews (PIRs) and ensure lessons learned are captured and acted upon.
Release Management:
• Plan, schedule, and manage software releases, updates, and patches across environments.
• Maintain the release calendar and ensure alignment with business and IT stakeholders.
• Ensure proper change and version control mechanisms are in place.
• Implement and improve release automation pipelines (CI/CD) leveraging Azure DevOps or other tools.
• Coordinate release approvals, documentation, and communications.
Cloud-Specific Responsibilities (Azure):
• Manage releases and service transitions in Azure cloud environments.
• Support provisioning, deployment, and configuration activities using Azure-native tools and automation.
• Ensure Azure policies, governance, and security requirements are adhered to during transition and release activities.
• Collaborate with cloud architects to optimize service deployment strategies.
Qualifications
To land this role, you will need
• 3 or more years of IT experience with an exposure to Service Transition and Release Management.
• Strong knowledge of ITIL v3/v4, particularly Service Transition and Change/Release Management.
• Experience managing releases in Agile, DevOps, and hybrid environments.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (Azure DevOps, ARM templates, Azure Automation, etc.).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and deployment strategies (blue-green, canary, rolling).
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience with monitoring and incident management processes post-release.
Preferred Certifications:
• Good to have : ITIL v4 Foundation
• Good to have : Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
