Mission Design Engineer

Position: Mission Design Engineer Location: Hyderabad, Telangana Type: Full-time About the Role As a Mission Design Engineer, you will be part of the team responsible for end-to-end design and analysis of satellite missions. You’ll work on constellation design, mission design, orbital mechanics, access analysis, delta-V budgets, maneuver planning, and system-level trade-offs to support various mission phases — from concept to operations. Key Responsibilities · Perform orbit design, analysis, and propagation (LEO/MEO/GEO/interplanetary). · Analyze coverage, access, and ground station visibility using tools like STK, GMAT, or Python-based frameworks. · Compute delta-V budgets for launch, orbit maintenance, collision avoidance, and deorbiting. · Conduct mission-level trade studies (orbit selection, lifetime, launch window optimization). · Design and implement Python or C++-based custom orbit propagators and maneuver planners. · Develop reusable libraries and automation scripts for mission design and orbit analysis. · Support internal toolchains for trajectory optimization and Monte Carlo simulations. · Conduct conjunction analysis · Coordinate with payload, propulsion, and GNC teams to ensure mission feasibility. · Support mission proposals, requirement definitions, and operations planning. · Generate technical documentation and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. Required Qualifications · Bachelor’s or master's in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, Physics, or related field. · Strong fundamentals in orbital mechanics and astrodynamics. · Experience with at least one tool: STK, GMAT, Orekit, Basilisk, or equivalent. · Proficiency in MATLAB or Python/C/C++. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications · Experience with mission analysis for constellation or interplanetary missions. · Exposure to launch vehicle interface planning and rideshare constraints. · Familiarity with satellite systems and subsystems (ADCS, propulsion, comms).
