Job Title
Business Head - Independent Power Producer (IPP)
Location - Bangalore, India
Reporting To - Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Role Purpose
The Business Head - IPP will be responsible for conceptualising, building, and scaling a greenfield IPP platform in India, targeting 10 GW of operational renewable energy assets across solar, hybrid, storage-linked, and emerging clean energy opportunities. This is a 0-to-1 leadership role, requiring strong stakeholder management, commercial acumen, and execution excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Platform Build-out
- Define and execute the long-term IPP growth strategy to achieve 10 GW assets under development/operation.
- Lead end-to-end IPP lifecycle: market entry, project identification, development, financing, construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Identify and evaluate solar, wind, hybrid, RTC, BESS-linked and emerging IPP opportunities.
- Business Development & Origination
- Drive project origination through bids, tenders, bilateral PPAs, merchant power, and corporate PPA structures.
- Lead engagement with SECI, NTPC, state DISCOMs, private offtakers, and C&I customers.
- Build strong relationships with land aggregators, transmission utilities, EPCs, and O&M partners.
- Stakeholder & Regulatory Management
- Act as the primary interface with:
- Central and State government agencies
- Regulators (CERC, SERCs)
- DISCOMs and power offtakers
- Lenders, investors, and rating agencies
- Navigate regulatory frameworks, approvals, grid connectivity, and policy incentives.
- Financial Structuring & Fundraising Support
- Work closely with the CEO and finance team to:
- Structure project finance and portfolio-level financing
- Support equity and debt fundraising
- Ensure bankability of PPAs and project structures
- Own project IRR, tariff competitiveness, and risk-return optimisation.
- Execution & Delivery
- Oversee project development timelines, cost control, and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate with EPC, engineering, procurement, and construction partners.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to performance benchmarks.
- Team Building & Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performance IPP team across development, commercial, regulatory, and execution functions.
- Establish scalable processes, governance frameworks, and performance metrics.
- Foster a strong execution-driven and entrepreneurial culture.
Candidate Profile
- relevant experience in renewable energy, power generation, or infrastructure.
- Proven experience in building IPP or power generation platforms from scratch (0-to-1).
- Track record of developing and executing utility-scale renewable projects in India.
- Hands-on experience working with multiple stakeholders: government bodies, lenders, investors, EPCs, and offtakers.
