The Index Engineering team at S&P Dow Jones Indices develops bespoke index solutions for institutional clients across global financial markets. T his role focuses primarily on financial data exploration, index research, quantitative analysis, and process improvement, where Python is used as an analytical tool to solve business problems.

The Team:
The Index Engineering team designs and develops bespoke equity indices for institutional clients across global financial markets. Our team members, based in New York, New Jersey, and Mumbai, combine financial market research, index methodology , quantitative analysis, and technology to create investment solutions.
This internship is ideal for students interested in quantitative finance, financial markets, and using p ython as a tool for financial analysis rather than traditional software development.

The Index Engineering team contributes to the development and launch of bespoke index products that serve a diverse global client base.
In this role, you will collaborate with experienced analysts and engineers on internal process improvements, exploratory research initiatives, and technology enhancements that drive operational efficiency and support innovation within the team.

Responsibilities:
Support quantitative research initiatives related to Index Engineering.
Explore internal analytical platforms to identify workflow improvements and operational efficiencies.
Support exploratory projects related to workflow improvements, analytical research, or new technology initiatives.
Assist in developing Python-based analytical utilities and workflow automation where appropriate .
Review and validate structured data outputs under supervision.
Support documentation of workflows, methodologies, and operational processes.
Collaborate with global teams on testing, quality assurance, and exploratory research initiatives.
Participate in projects involving Databricks and other internal analytical platforms.
Present analytical findings, observations, and recommendations to team members.
Develop foundational knowledge of index concepts, financial datasets, and internal team workflows.
Additional Notes:
This internship focuses on analytical support, exploratory initiatives, and workflow enhancement projects.
Interns will receive guidance from experienced team members and will not be expected to independently manage production index workflows or proprietary systems .
Basic Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or M aster’s degree in F inance , Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering, Data Science, or another quantitative discipline.
Strong interest in financial markets, investing, quantitative finance, or index investing.
Must be able to work out of the Mumbai, India office during the internship period.
Ability to analyze numerical data and solve analytical problems.
I ntermediate p roficiency in Python and familiarity with basic data analysis concepts.
Familiarity with Git/version control and collaborative development workflows.
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding one or more of the following is an advantage - f inancial markets, ETFs , passive investing, or index concepts.
Exposure to tools and frameworks such as pandas, NumPy, Streamlit , or Databricks.
Familiarity with structured datasets, data processing workflows, and financial market analytics.
Ability to work independently on structured tasks with guidance from the team.
Strong communication and collaboration skills in a global team environment.
Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to explore ambiguous problems and propose solutions.
