We're seeking an experienced Director of User Experience to lead our embedded UX team serving a major healthcare technology client. In this role, you'll manage a growing team of UX professionals (currently 2 researchers and 5 designers) who work as the in-house UX function for a mid-sized, early-stage healthcare technology organization serving the health insurance market. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll drive design excellence, build strategic relationships with product and engineering leadership, and create the conditions for your team to do their best work. You'll report to our VP of User Experience and serve as the operational owner of the team — the connective tissue between strategy and delivery — while also rolling up your sleeves on critique, coaching, and day-to-day quality.

Role & responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

Provide hands-on management, coaching, and mentorship to 2 UX researchers and 5 senior designers

Conduct design and research critique, ensuring high-quality outputs across all projects

Review and approve research & design plans

Lead performance development and team growth

Foster a collaborative, supportive team culture where everyone feels set up for success

Client Partnership & Strategy

Build and maintain strong relationships with Product directors and Engineering directors

Work directly with the VP of Product on roadmap planning and UX prioritization

Collaborate with the VP of User Experience on overall UX strategy and practice evolution

Represent UX in cross-functional planning and decision-making

Participate in quarterly business reviews with client leadership

Operational Excellence & Project Management

Adapt and maintain systems that give leadership and clients real-time visibility into team activity, project assignments, and deliverables

Manage project tracking system to provide real-time visibility into team workload and progress

Ensure consistent design quality across multiple concurrent projects in Care Management and Utilization Management feature areas

Optimize team workflows to increase design throughput and reduce time-to-test and time-to-delivery

Navigate roadmap changes and ambiguity, helping the team stay productive despite shifting priorities

Facilitate team rituals including weekly team meetings and twice-weekly critique sessions

Problem-Solving & Influence

Coach the team to navigate their collaborations with product management independently, while stepping in to remove blockers that require your seniority

Partner with Product on the shared product development lifecycle, from discovery through design and into build

You’re a Perfect Match If You Have:

Required Experience

5+ years in UX leadership roles, including experience as a Director or equivalent

Proven experience managing teams of 5-10 UX professionals, including both designers and researchers

Deep expertise in complex enterprise software for healthcare (experience with health insurance/payer systems strongly preferred)

Track record of success in an in-house product organization or deeply embedded consulting role

Experience managing geographically distributed or offshore teams

Demonstrated ability to build influential relationships with senior product and engineering leaders

Skills & Capabilities

Expert at design critique and providing actionable feedback that elevates quality

Strong facilitator who can drive alignment across cross-functional teams

Process-oriented with a toolkit of best practices ready to apply

Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-changing environments

Excellent at coaching UX professionals to grow their skills and impact

Experienced in research oversight and translating insights into design direction

Logistics

Travel: Some travel to Boston HQ or occasionally customer sites

The Offer

Newfire Global is committed to consistent compensation practices across our organization. Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a salary of $180,000 - $230,000. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, Flexible work schedules and time-off policy, as well as company equipment for all new full-time US-based remote employees.
