About the Role
We are seeking experienced Military Writing Specialists to support an AI training and evaluation project focused on military and federal documentation. You will apply your knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) reporting practices, documentation standards, and operational communication to create, review, and evaluate realistic military reports and official written materials.
Your work will help establish high-quality examples, assessment criteria, and benchmarks that enable AI systems to better understand and produce accurate, compliant, and standards-aligned government communications. Previous AI experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities
Create realistic military and federal status reports, summaries, and executive updates using supplied prompts and reference materials.
Develop high-quality reference responses that demonstrate effective, standards-aligned military and federal writing.
Design grading rubrics and evaluation guidelines based on established military and federal documentation practices.
Review AI-generated reports and provide detailed written and verbal feedback on accuracy, clarity, structure, compliance, and effectiveness.
Explain stylistic conventions and variations across common military documents, including Weekly Activity Reports (WARs), Situation Reports (SITREPs), After-Action Reviews (AARs), and executive summaries.
Prepare supporting materials such as decision briefs, memoranda, action officer updates, PowerPoint presentations, and spreadsheets.
Collaborate remotely with other subject matter experts to incorporate diverse reporting approaches and maintain appropriate branch-specific terminology.
Evaluate documentation against relevant federal standards, procedural requirements, and compliance best practices.
Required Qualifications
At least 3 years of relevant professional experience with the U.S. Department of Defense or equivalent military or federal documentation responsibilities.
Practical experience producing structured military or federal reports, such as WARs, SITREPs, AARs, or comparable official documents.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and operational information clearly.
Demonstrated ability to draft, review, assess, and improve formal documents, presentations, memoranda, and spreadsheets.
Familiarity with federal documentation standards, military reporting conventions, and compliance best practices.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess written material against defined standards and evaluation criteria.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a U.S. Department of Defense professional.
Familiarity with documentation practices across two or more branches of the U.S. military.
Experience developing evaluation rubrics, grading criteria, quality standards, or structured document-review processes.
Experience producing executive updates, decision briefs, action officer reports, or other leadership-facing communications.
Ability to identify differences in terminology, style, structure, and reporting expectations across military roles and organizations.
Working Arrangement
This is a fully remote contractor engagement for contributors based in the United States. The work focuses on applying existing military writing and documentation expertise to AI training, benchmark development, and quality evaluation.
Prior experience in AI development or AI training is not required.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience producing military or federal documentation and understands how to communicate operational information accurately, concisely, and in accordance with established procedures. They can distinguish high-quality reporting from incomplete or noncompliant documentation and translate that judgment into clear feedback and practical evaluation guidelines.
