About the Role

We are seeking experienced Software Engineers to contribute to the development and evaluation of next-generation AI systems.

In this role, you will apply your software engineering expertise to create realistic, challenging coding tasks for AI systems and evaluate how effectively they solve those tasks. Your work will help improve how AI models learn, reason, debug, and implement software.

You do not need prior AI experience. Strong software engineering judgment, coding ability, and practical experience building and maintaining production-quality systems are the primary requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create realistic and challenging coding tasks involving feature implementation, bug fixing, and software development.

  • Develop deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject incorrect or incomplete solutions.

  • Review and evaluate AI-generated solutions against defined technical requirements.

  • Identify software bugs, implementation issues, and performance bottlenecks.

  • Work with codebases requiring debugging, refactoring, testing, and performance optimization.

  • Design tasks that accurately assess software engineering reasoning and implementation ability.

  • Apply strong code review and testing practices to ensure high-quality technical outputs.

  • Work across backend technologies and programming languages as required by individual projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong professional experience in backend software engineering.

  • Experience with one or more of Python, Java, Rust, TypeScript, C++, Node.js, Go, or similar languages.

  • Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and foundational computer science concepts.

  • Experience building scalable services and APIs.

  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience implementing software features and fixing complex bugs.

  • Experience with automated testing and maintaining reliable code.

  • Ability to analyze existing codebases and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Strong technical communication and code review judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering high-quality, performant software projects.

  • Experience diagnosing system bottlenecks and performance issues.

  • Experience refactoring large or complex codebases.

  • Experience implementing complex features in large-scale applications.

  • Strong background in test strategy and automated testing.

  • Experience building or maintaining large test suites.

  • Experience diagnosing and resolving flaky tests.

  • Experience establishing or improving engineering testing standards.

Work Schedule

This is a flexible remote contract position requiring approximately 15 hours per week.

You can choose the days and hours that work best for you, including weekends if preferred.

Selection Process

The selection process is designed to evaluate your independent technical reasoning and software engineering ability.

  1. Application and screening questions

  2. AI interview — approximately 30 minutes

  3. Technical assessment, if required

  4. Hiring manager review

Candidates are expected to complete assessments independently without outside assistance.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid for tasks that meet the applicable project specifications and quality requirements.

The time required to complete individual tasks may vary based on experience, technical approach, and workflow. Minimum submission requirements may apply, including a minimum number of completed tasks per week.

Start Timeline

Selected candidates are expected to be available to begin promptly.

The typical onboarding and selection process is designed to move quickly, with successful candidates generally expected to begin their first tasks within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding.
