Access Essentials
The Access Essentials organization at Okta builds the platform features for authentication and authorization across Okta-protected resources. Our mission is to enable customers to access these resources seamlessly & securely. We develop Okta cloud services and client software that allow users to seamlessly login to devices and use Okta authenticators to access applications securely. The Access Frameworks team
We build the foundational authentication and access frameworks that secure how every Okta customer signs in and verifies identity. Our products and features are deeply embedded across Okta's platform, making them high-impact and high-visibility. Our team owns the Authenticator Platform (Authenticator Admin API, MyAccount Authenticators API, Factors API), Okta Telephony (SMS/voice OTP delivery, BYO-Telephony, toll-fraud protection, and vendor relations), Okta Certificate Authority, and Trusted Origins & CORS (Trusted Origins API, CORS), along with OktaVerify push notification delivery and MFA Abandonment reporting.
The Engineer Opportunity
We seek an experienced web Fullstack engineer to join our Access Frameworks team. The ideal candidate has an excellent mix in experience Fullstack development, building well-tested and maintainable software. The opportunity is an excellent chance to build software with high impact and usage. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of complex, high-performance features using React and TypeScript.
- Architect and optimize high-performance server-side logic and robust data models using Java, Spring Boot, and MySQL to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our core identity services.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, UX researchers and backend engineers to translate requirements into robust and effective Fullstack solutions.
- Write clean, modular, well-tested, and maintainable code, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
- Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and responsiveness across various devices and browsers.
- Contribute to the evolution of our frontend architecture, ensuring its long-term scalability and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring code quality across the team.
- Proactively identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in Fullstack development, evaluating and recommending new tools and approaches.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence within the team.
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional experience in Fullstack development, with a strong focus on building complex web applications.
- Deep expertise in React, including a strong understanding of its core principles, hooks, component lifecycle, and state management.
- Extensive experience in developing and scaling enterprise-grade backend applications with Java and Spring Boot, including deep knowledge of API security and database performance tuning
- Proficiency in TypeScript, with a proven ability to leverage its features for robust and maintainable codebases.
- Solid understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
- Experience with front-end tooling such as Webpack, Babel, Vite, and package managers (Yarn).
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, specifically MySQL, including data modeling and query optimization.
- Demonstrated experience consuming and integrating with RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright) and a commitment to writing comprehensive tests.
- Strong understanding of version control systems, particularly Git.
- Experience with responsive design principles and building accessible web interfaces.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and find practical solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team.
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.
- An understanding of Identity and Access Management protocols and architecture, e.g., FIDO, U2F, WebAuth, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
