At Moss, we give finance professionals the power to automate their day-to-day and make forward-thinking decisions.
Our team and culture make us unique — we’re driven by impact and growth, where every one of us strives to learn and excel. Recognised by Sifted’s Rising 100 and LinkedIn's Top Startups, we’re here to help propel your career and together, make Moss a lasting success.
About the role
Compliance at Moss is the second line of defence for our regulated entity, Moss GmbH, a licensed e-money institution under the ZAG. We keep Moss safe and trusted as it scales - and we treat compliance as an enabler of growth, not a brake.
We're looking for an experienced AFC and compliance professional to join our small, high-ownership Compliance team and work directly alongside our Director of Compliance / MLRO. You'll cover the full breadth of our mandate - AFC/AML, regulatory compliance (ZAG-MaRisk), and card fraud - and act as a genuine deputy: someone who can step in and represent the function end-to-end.
After a successful probation period, you will be appointed Deputy MLRO (stellv. Geldwäschebeauftragte:r, § 7 GwG) and Deputy Compliance Officer (stellv. Compliance-Beauftragte:r, ZAG-MaRisk).
This is a senior individual-contributor role with real scope, autonomy, and regulatory responsibility.
What you'll do
Anti-Financial Crime (AML & CTF)
- Contribute to and quality-assure the AFC risk analysis (§ 5 GwG), the MLRO report, and further regulatory assessments.
- Perform second-level controls and spot checks on our AFC measures.
- Investigate hand-on, monitor transactions, file SARs, assess EDDs.
Card Fraud
- Own and strengthen our card-fraud detection and monitoring, including rule optimisation.
- Improve the operational disputes and chargeback process. This is a focus area where we expect you to lead.
Compliance (ZAG-MaRisk)
- Develop and continuously improve our compliance management system and written procedures (SFO) - including implementation of the new EU AML Regulation.
- Advise business units on the regulatory implications of new products and services (NPP).
Process & AI
- Actively use AI to improve how compliance work gets done - and, over time, build and share n8n-workflow automations and Claude skills that make our AFC and compliance processes faster and more scalable.
- Provide guidance and training to KYC Operations and other teams, building compliance awareness across Moss.
What you bring:
- Strong hands-on experience (typically 3+ years) in AML / financial crime / compliance, ideally in payments, e-money, fintech, or banking - including real casework, escalations, and SAR reporting.
- Proven track record of complex project management across multiple stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR, GwG, FATF, EBA Guidelines, etc.).
- German and English at least at C1 level, both written and spoken.
Nice to have
- Relevant certification such as CCP (Certified Compliance Professional), CCO (Certified Compliance Officer), ACAMS/CAMS, or an equivalent AML/fraud qualification.
- A mix of in-house fintech/bank, consultancy and/or auditor experience.
- Direct exposure to card-scheme fraud, transaction-monitoring tooling, and data/analytics (e.g. SQL, Metabase).
- A degree in law, finance, business, or a related field.
AI at Moss
AI is core to how we work. For this role we expect an "AI Driver": you already use AI to improve real workflows (not just personal productivity), can point to concrete before/after examples with measurable impact, and share what works with the team. A track record of building automations/agents/tooling (n8n, Claude skills, or similar) is a strong plus - and if you're not there yet, we'll actively support you in getting there. In the process you can expect a short practical case study.
