We do it all while committing to integrity, sustainability, and giving back to our communities. Because doing so can fuel the very innovation we are pursuing.
NAND Device Engineer / Senior / Staff / Principal
At Micron Technology, we are transforming how the world uses information to enrich life. As a NAND Device Engineer in the Device Technology Development team, you will play a critical role in shaping next-generation NAND technologies by bridging device physics, array operation, and product requirements.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of fundamental device behavior and real-system impact, contributing directly to cutting-edge memory products deployed globally.
What You Will Do:
Device Understanding & Innovation
- Develop deep insight into NAND cell physics, variability, and reliability mechanisms across technology nodes and architectures.
- Analyze electrical characterization data from cell arrays and test structures to identify key limitations and improvement opportunities.
- Translate device-level understanding into actionable directions for cell design, process optimization, and array operation.
Array-Level Optimization & Co-Design
- Drive device–array co-optimization, including threshold voltage (Vt) placement, distribution control, and sensing margins.
- Design and refine algorithms, trims, and waveform strategies to improve performance, yield, and reliability.
- Contribute to solving complex system-level problems such as interference, retention, endurance, and read/write margin trade-offs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with process integration, cell design, product engineering, and test teams across global sites (e.g., Singapore, Boise, India).
- Provide feedback on process experiments and splits, linking physical changes to electrical/system-level impact.
- Participate in cross-functional debug, yield ramp, and technology bring-up activities.
Technology Development Impact
- Contribute to next-generation NAND technology definition and scaling strategies.
- Propose and prototype novel device or algorithmic solutions to overcome emerging scaling challenges.
- Drive data-driven decision making using statistics, modeling, and large dataset analysis.
AI & Data-Driven Engineering (Core to Role) Apply data analytics, statistical modeling, and AI/ML techniques to extract insights from large-scale device and array datasets. Develop or leverage automation frameworks, data pipelines, and AI-assisted tools to accelerate analysis and decision-making. Identify opportunities to replace manual workflows with AI-driven solutions (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive modeling, automated debug). Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to build scalable AI-enabled workflows for device characterization and reliability analysis. Contribute to the broader transformation toward AI-assisted engineering and smart manufacturing within Micron
Who You Are:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- Solid understanding of semiconductor devices and fundamentals
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret electrical data and trends
- Good communication skills and ability to work in collaborative, multi-site teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or coursework in non-volatile memory (NAND preferred)
- Understanding of device variability, reliability mechanisms, and scaling challenges
- Exposure to data analysis (Python, MATLAB, JMP, etc.) and statistics
- Familiarity with memory array operation, sensing schemes, or algorithm development
- Demonstrated ability to connect device behavior to system-level impact
- Exposure to machine learning, AI, or advanced data analytics technique
- Ability to move beyond data → build intuition and physical understanding
- Experience building automated analysis pipelines or engineering tools
- Curiosity to ask “why does this behavior exist?”, not just “what happened?”
- Ownership in driving problems end-to-end across device, process, and product
- Comfort working in ambiguous, evolving technology spaces
- Strong bias toward impact and execution over analysis alone
- Mindset of leveraging AI and automation to improve engineering efficiency
Why This Role is Exciting:
- Work on state-of-the-art 3D NAND technologies pushing the limits of scaling
- Influence decisions that directly affect product performance and cost
- Be part of a global, highly collaborative engineering network
- Opportunity to grow into deep technical leadership or cross-domain influence
