We are seeking a hands-on senior software engineer / architect who is an expert in UI/UX design and development to work on our multi-physics computational modeling codes. Your primary responsibility will be to redesign, extend, and improve our existing UI packages in every respect, including the user experience, robustness and performance, graphical elements, and integration and unification with other codes and AI/ML tools.
Essential Functions / Job Description
- Extend and modify existing UI packages to improve their intuitiveness and their support for easier and more efficient workflows and greater automation. This role requires working with users and domain experts to understand their personas, modelling processes, and intentions, and to iterate on design artifacts with them.
- Redesign, extend, improve, and develop existing UI packages to support additional functionalities, including functionalities related to Python scripting, to the generation of Reduced Order Models and Surrogate Models, and to coupling with external AI/ML tools and agents and DOE packages.
- Redesign and re-factor existing UI packages to improve their robustness, speed, and ability to handle very large models.
- Redesign and re-implement existing UI/UX packages to enable CPU-GPU parallelization.
- Integrate and unify existing UI packages into a single unified package and implement client-server and distributed computing architectures
- Participate in and contribute to all phases of the software lifecycle for several UI packages, including identifying promising future technologies, defining technical requirements, planning the work, designing the software, implementing and testing the code, and working on the ongoing related extensions, maintenance, support, and documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to other UI/UX and graphics developers working on the UI/UX packages.
Education and Skills / Job Requirements
- A B.Sc., B.Tech, M.Sc, or M.Tech degree in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, physics, or a computational simulation or modeling discipline.
- Proven and demonstrable talent and skill in UI design, development, and testing.
- Demonstrable skill in understanding and anticipating the needs, behaviors, and intentions of users and in developing user-centered interfaces.
- Expertise in Qt, JavaFX, Flutter, .NET, or any other UI desktop or mobile development framework.
- Expertise in modern C/C++ and Python and in integrating C/C++ application functions with graphics components.
- Expertise in using modern OpenGL APIs for graphics-intensive UI components, and a sound understanding of real-time graphics performance maximization.
- Expertise in profiling, debugging, and parallelizing code on both CPUs and GPUs.
- Proficiency in XML data and schema management and in the XML ecosystem.
- Familiarity with distributed system UI development and client-server architectures.
- Originality, creativity, and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Some background in developing and using UI packages for simulation, modeling, or scientific computing packages.
- Ability to work independently as well as in close collaboration with teams of computational scientists and computer scientists.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
