About the Role:

The Engineering Manager, Malware Research Center will lead a team of engineers dedicated to supporting MRC's activities by building the tools and systems required for Falcon, threat researchers, and other teams within the Research & Development and Data Science organizations — including AI/ML-powered pipelines and GenAI-assisted research tooling.

The Engineering Manager is expected to coordinate with leadership, plan, and oversee execution of multiple concurrent projects to help improve the product while maintaining hands-on technical involvement. This person should be capable of independent execution, problem solving, and demonstrate passion towards engineering excellence while driving and inspiring a high-performing engineering team.

About the Team - Malware Research Center:

The CrowdStrike Malware Research Center is the core of Falcon's malware detection and response capabilities. The team has a focus on understanding the threat landscape and sets the target for what Falcon should be identifying and preventing. Additionally, the MRC is responsible for understanding Falcon’s capabilities, and mapping how well the machine learning and behavioral protection capabilities are doing against those threats. Where there is a gap, the MRC takes action to improve our detection stance and improve our overall protection story. There are many parts of CrowdStrike working towards protecting customer environments, and the MRC works across all of them to ensure we are on target and providing the best protection for our current threat landscape.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead & Mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous growth
  • Build and oversee the systems required for threat researchers, and other teams within the Research & Development and Data Science organizations
  • Drive Engineering Execution across multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
  • Build highly scalable solutions based on cloud technology, often by architecting and adding new microservices
  • Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and help team members succeed through hands-on technical engagement
  • Own the Roadmap in partnership with product management, threat intelligence, and security research teams
  • Recruit, Retain & Develop top engineering talent; conduct performance reviews and career development planning
  • Establish Engineering Best Practices including CI/CD pipelines, code quality standards, testing strategies, and operational excellence
  • Manage Stakeholder Communication — provide clear, concise updates on project status, risks, and milestones to senior leadership
  • Gain technical expertise and continuously improve systems, staying current with emerging technologies and engineering practices
  • Integrate GenAI and AI-assisted tooling into engineering workflows to accelerate development velocity, reduce toil, and improve code quality across the team
  • Partner with Data Science teams to build and maintain infrastructure that supports ML model evaluation pipelines, dataset management, and automated analysis workflows
  • Champion responsible AI adoption within the team — identifying high-value use cases for LLM-assisted automation in internal tooling

What You'll Need:

  • 8+ years of software development experience in a cloud developer role, or similar
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience leading 6-10 engineers across multiple simultaneous projects with competing priorities
  • BS in Computer Science, or a similar field
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, production-grade systems at scale
  • Experience in one or more high-level programming languages — Python, Go (GoLang), Rust, etc. is preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Python and GoLang with ability to write, review, and critique production-quality code
  • Hands-on coding experience is a must — this is not a purely managerial role
  • Experience automating workflows through JSON API use and design
  • Proficiency with pub-sub and message queues: Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, Redis, NATS
  • Experience working with relational and non-relational/NoSQL database technologies:
  • MySQL, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and similar
  • Deep experience designing and building microservices architectures
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines and priorities
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies; ability to run sprint planning, retrospectives, and standups
  • Strong skills in roadmap planning, resource allocation, and risk management
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and adopt AI/GenAI tooling within an engineering team — including identifying use cases, managing adoption, and measuring impact
  • Working knowledge of LLM capabilities and limitations as applied to engineering and security research workflows

Bonus Points:

  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and code generation practices to enhance productivity
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, RAG patterns, or LLM-assisted automation as applied to engineering productivity or security research workflows
  • Experience with MLOps practices — model versioning, evaluation pipelines, and dataset lifecycle management
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs into production internal tooling or automation workflows
  • Experience in user interface design and UI technologies (AngularJS, ReactJS)
  • Knowledge of the security domain, good problem solving, and system design skills
  • Understanding of secure coding practices, OWASP Top 10, and vulnerability management
