We are looking for a Technical Director to join Builder Relations, leading our team of talented Advocates in APAC. You will empower developers—from startups to Fortune 500 companies—to integrate advanced data and AI capabilities into their applications and solutions. If you are passionate about equipping builders and cultivating a vibrant developer ecosystem, we invite you to join us in shaping the future of development on MongoDB.

Our Builder Relations teams are distributed across the globe, with most members working remotely. To see what our team is doing, check out our content on YouTube, Dev, and Medium.

This role can be remotely in the India region.

Candidate Profile

We are excited to welcome a technical leader to our team who, as a player & coach, will drive engagement with customers and the community in India and across the region. At the foundation of your expertise is a love to equip others through hands-on workshops, architectural reviews, and building relationships directly with customers, and at events and user groups. To be successful, you will have at least 10 years of experience as a database expert, and 5 years of experience as a people manager. Ideally, you will have additional experience in a customer-facing role (such as solution architect), teaching, or related technical role, where you’ve led or advised teams as they solve their enterprise's most critical data challenges, and have distributed code and content to support others.

You are known for your deep database expertise (familiarity with other data technologies and the ability to quickly become proficient in MongoDB), your insight into developer enablement programs, and your ability to guide development teams in the adoption of new technologies. You’re an excellent public speaker and are comfortable sitting across the table from architects or delivering live enablement sessions to technical audiences of 40 to 400. You are already building with AI for productivity and exploring AI-native solutions.

It is essential that you have a genuine passion for equipping other builders to be more productive and successful. Finally, you excel at explaining complex technical concepts in simple terms and have a natural ability to connect and communicate with developers of various skill levels. Your focus is not just on individual success but on the success of the entire team, consistent with MongoDB's value of Building Together.

Position Expectations

  • Lead a highly technical team supporting regional customer and community engagement
  • Grow as a recognized subject matter expert on document schema design, building on a deep understanding of core and AI MongoDB capabilities
  • Deliver schema design review sessions to customer development teams to guide their design, architecture, and use of MongoDB in the context of their specific or potential workloads
  • Deliver live developer enablement sessions to audiences of 40 to 400 developers
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and other teams to develop and scale effective enablement content for builders within strategic accounts
  • Share and adapt our best practices for effective customer and community engagement in the region, track business impact, and report on feedback and insights your team is actively collecting
  • Mentor other team members including the surrounding ecosystem of Solutions Architects and Marketing partners.

Requirements

  • You have 10+ years of experience working with development or engineering teams in designing database schemas and implementing highly performant and scalable database methods, including 5 years of experience (or the equivalent) consulting with development teams as a non-member of the team
  • You have at least 5 years of experience managing and hiring technical teams of engineers or advocates
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to lead technical sessions at public events and online
  • Portfolio of code and content you've created, or led creation of, to enable developers and drive awareness
  • Willingness to travel (up to 60%)
