About the Team

The Adobe Illustrator Engineering team is building the next generation of creative technology that powers millions of designers around the world.

Our mission is to modernize Illustrator's core architecture while delivering intelligent, AI-assisted creative workflows that enhance every stage of the design experience. We build scalable application capabilities that enable high-performance rendering, cloud-connected collaboration, intelligent automation, GPU acceleration, creative services integration, and agentic AI experiences across Illustrator.

Our engineering ecosystem spans modern C++ systems, cloud-native backend services, distributed collaboration infrastructure, AI-powered creative workflows, and enterprise-scale engineering systems. We are integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), intelligent automation, cloud services, and modern observability into Illustrator while maintaining the performance, reliability, security, and quality expected from one of Adobe's flagship creative applications.

We're looking for passionate engineers who enjoy solving challenging technical problems across desktop, cloud, graphics, distributed systems, and AI technologies while helping shape the future of digital creativity.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build next-generation application capabilities for Adobe Illustrator across desktop and cloud environments.
  • Develop scalable backend services supporting collaboration, cloud synchronization, creative asset management, and AI-powered workflows.
  • Build intelligent systems that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic AI, and modern machine learning technologies to improve creative productivity.
  • Design and implement high-performance rendering, graphics, and document-processing infrastructure optimized for large-scale vector artwork.
  • Develop distributed services supporting collaboration, workflow orchestration, content synchronization, telemetry, and production observability.
  • Partner with Product Management, Design, Adobe Research, and cross-functional engineering teams to bring innovative creative technologies into production.
  • Drive architectural modernization initiatives across Illustrator, including application evolution, cloud integration, GPU acceleration, and AI-assisted engineering.
  • Build highly reliable, secure, and scalable systems that serve millions of creative professionals globally.
  • Continuously evaluate and integrate emerging technologies in Generative AI, agentic systems, intelligent automation, graphics computing, and cloud-native architectures.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience designing and building large-scale software systems.
  • Strong programming expertise in C++, Python, or similar object-oriented languages.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalable application architecture, and cloud-native application development.
  • Experience developing high-performance desktop applications or large-scale backend services.
  • Strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, system design, and architectural principles.
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), agentic workflows, reasoning models, or AI-powered developer tools.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, Docker, distributed services, and microservice architectures.
  • Familiarity with graphics technologies, rendering pipelines, GPU acceleration, or creative application development is highly desirable.
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Grafana, Splunk, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, or similar monitoring technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills with a passion for building world-class creative software.
  • Passion for shaping the future of AI-assisted creativity while delivering performant, reliable, and delightful experiences for millions of Illustrator users worldwide.
