We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Junior Java Developer with over 3 years of experience to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate is passionate about building high-quality software and has a strong desire to develop their career with an AI-first mindset. You will be trained to leverage cutting-edge AI tools like Devin, Claude Code, and proprietary Citi AI platforms to enhance your development workflow. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your skills in building scalable microservices and REST APIs on modern cloud platforms (ECS, APIGEE, Cloud) using technologies like Java and Kafka. Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design and development of cloud-native microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
- Embrace and develop an AI-first approach, learning to use AI coding assistants (Devin, Claude Code) and internal Citi AI tools to improve development efficiency and code quality.
- Assist in building and maintaining event-driven systems using Kafka for real-time data processing.
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications on containerized platforms like ECS using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Support the design and implementation of secure, scalable APIs using APIGEE.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of developers, testers, and architects in a fast-paced Agile/DevOps environment.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
Knowledge/Experience:
- Over 3+ years of hands-on experience in application development using Java/J2EE technologies.
- A strong interest in and willingness to adopt an AI-first mindset, with a passion for learning and using AI-powered coding assistants.
- Solid hands-on experience with Java (version 1.8 or above) and the Spring Boot framework.
- Good understanding of microservice architecture patterns and experience building RESTful web services.
- Familiarity with messaging platforms like Kafka is a strong plus.
- Experience or a keen interest in deploying applications in cloud environments (e.g., ECS, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift).
- Exposure to API Gateway management tools like APIGEE is desirable.
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jira, BitBucket, TeamCity).
- Experience with writing unit tests using frameworks like JUnit and Mockito.
- Basic understanding of both relational (e.g., Oracle) and NoSQL databases.
- A proactive and curious mindset with a strong aptitude for learning new technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (in science, computers, information technology or engineering)
- Candidate should be willing to work late in the evening India time on need basis in order to interact with US/other global teams
