About the Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Accounting Experts to help evaluate and improve advanced AI systems on realistic accounting and financial reporting tasks.
This opportunity is ideal for accounting professionals with strong US GAAP knowledge, professional judgment, financial reporting, audit, controllership, FP&A, or tax experience. You will review AI-generated work, assess whether conclusions are accurate and properly supported, and identify gaps, errors, or unsupported claims.
What You'll Do
- Review AI-agent attempts at realistic accounting and financial reporting tasks.
- Assess whether conclusions are technically correct, complete, and adequately supported.
- Verify that accounting work was actually completed and recorded rather than simply described.
- Identify fabricated support, unsupported figures, incomplete procedures, and overstated work.
- Evaluate whether the appropriate accounting method and standards were applied to the relevant issue.
- Assess workpapers, memos, reconciliations, evidence, and supporting documentation for completeness and review readiness.
- Provide clear, specific agree/disagree rationales explaining your evaluation.
- Apply a verify-before-finalize approach when assessing accounting outputs.
Accounting Expertise Required
Financial Reporting & Close
- US GAAP financial statements and period-end close and reporting processes.
- Reconciliations, substantive analytics, and source-document tie-outs.
- Subledger-to-general-ledger reconciliations.
- Understanding of open, locked, and reopened accounting periods.
Judgment & Evaluation
- Materiality and evaluation of errors and misstatements.
- Adjusting journal entries and related effects, including deferred tax implications.
- Distinguishing posted ledger entries from drafts, unposted batches, and working-paper adjustments.
Technical Accounting & Estimates
Working knowledge of relevant US GAAP standards, including:
- ASC 606 — Revenue Recognition
- ASC 842 — Leases
- ASC 350/360 — Impairment
- Income Taxes
- ASC 326 — Credit Losses
- ASC 805 — Business Combinations
- Reserves, allowances, and significant accounting estimates.
Documentation & Evidence
- Workpaper and accounting memo standards.
- Cross-referencing, sign-offs, and review-ready documentation.
- Assessing whether figures, citations, procedures, and conclusions are genuinely supported by available evidence.
Accounting Technology
Comfort working with professional accounting and financial systems, including:
- Audit and engagement platforms such as CaseWare
- GL/ERP systems such as NetSuite
- BI and reporting platforms such as Power BI
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional accounting experience in one or more of: External Audit
- Controllership / Technical Accounting
- FP&A
- Tax
- Current or recent hands-on experience working under US GAAP.
- Strong professional judgment and the ability to quickly identify unsupported numbers, misapplied standards, or incomplete accounting work.
- CPA certification, active pursuit of CPA certification, Big 4/firm experience, industry experience, or equivalent professional background.
- Comfortable interpreting financial statements, supporting schedules, accounting records, and related documentation.
- Strong written communication and attention to detail.
Contract Details
- Independent contractor engagement.
- Fully remote with flexible scheduling.
