Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

<p class="p1">As an <strong>Engineering Manager</strong>, you will lead an engineering team responsible for the backend&nbsp;platform powering one of the Netherlands' largest automotive marketplaces.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="p1">You'll lead a team of approximately 5-6 engineers (currently supported by external engineers during an ongoing&nbsp;platform modernization). The team owns the core backend services that power the entire platform, including:</p>

<ul>

<li class="p1">Vehicle data ingestion from hundreds of external providers</li>

<li class="p1">Backend services and business logic powering the platform</li>

<li class="p1">Data matching, validation, enrichment and quality</li>

<li class="p1">Search ranking and listing lifecycle management</li>

<li class="p1">Click tracking, billing logic and fraud/bot protection</li>

<li class="p1">Platform reliability, operational excellence and incident management</li>

</ul>

<p class="p1">The team is currently modernizing its backend platform, migrating from a legacy PHP/Scala stack to Java on AWS.</p>

<p class="p1"><strong>What you'll do</strong></p>

<ul>

<li class="p2">Lead, coach and develop a high-performing engineering team</li>

<li class="p2">Partner closely with Product to define priorities and successfully deliver the roadmap</li>

<li class="p2">Drive technical excellence, engineering quality and operational maturity</li>

<li class="p2">Lead architecture and technical discussions across multiple teams</li>

<li class="p2">Establish strong operational practices, including on-call processes, incident management and post-incident reviews</li>

<li class="p2">Improve system reliability, scalability and performance for a business-critical platform</li>

<li class="p2">Coordinate complex initiatives involving multiple engineering teams and external dependencies</li>

<li class="p2">Foster a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement</li>

<li class="p2">Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives across AutoScout24 Group</li>

<li class="p2">Coach engineers on adopting AI to improve software quality and delivery speed</li>

<li class="p2">Act as a role model for effective AI usage across engineering and leadership activities</li>

<li class="p2">Identify opportunities to integrate AI throughout the software development lifecycle</li>

<li class="p2">Support the team's AI maturity and adoption as part of its ongoing transformation</li>

<p><strong>What you'll bring</strong></p>

<ul>

<li class="p1">3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams</li>

<li class="p2">Strong prior experience as a hands-on software engineer</li>

<li class="p2">Experience building and operating large-scale backend or distributed systems</li>

<li class="p2">Strong background in object-oriented programming (preferably Java)</li>

<li class="p2">Experience leading architecture and technical decision-making</li>

<li class="p2">Experience introducing and running operational excellence practices, including on-call rotations, incident&nbsp;response and postmortems</li>

<li class="p2">Proven ability to deliver complex cross-team initiatives with multiple stakeholders</li>

<li class="p2">Passion for coaching engineers and building high-performing teams</li>

<li class="p2">Experience driving adoption of modern AI development practices within engineering teams is highly desirable</li>
