Mobile Application Developer (SDE-1 — Android)

Experience: 1–3 Years (strong new grads considered)

Type: Full-Time

Location: Bengaluru, India

Team: Mobile Engineering

About Us

We are building the infrastructure that powers digital identity verification and onboarding for some of the world's largest financial institutions. Our platform processes millions of identity checks daily — across documents, faces, and liveness — delivering real-time decisions with enterprise-grade reliability. Our mobile engineering team builds the SDKs and applications that sit at the intersection of computer vision, AI, and regulatory compliance.

Role Overview

We are looking for an Android Developer (SDE-1) to build and maintain high-quality mobile applications and SDK components used by banks, fintechs, and enterprises globally. You will own small-to-medium features end-to-end — with guidance on the harder architectural calls — and work on real problems spanning document capture, face recognition, liveness detection, and secure on-device data handling.

You are expected to write production-grade code independently, but you'll have senior engineers to pair with on the tough decisions. This role is a growth track: you'll deepen your architecture, SDK, and performance skills on the way to SDE-2.

What You'll Do

Core Engineering

  • Build and maintain Android app features and reusable SDK modules
  • Own small-to-medium features end-to-end — from requirements through implementation, testing, and release (with guidance on the hard parts)
  • Write clean, scalable, well-documented Kotlin following modern Android best practices
  • Build declarative UIs with Jetpack Compose , managing state and navigation flows
  • Implement networking with Ktor Client — structured error handling, auth token management, offline resilience
  • Implement local persistence using Room and DataStore

Quality & Performance

  • Write unit tests (JUnit, Turbine for Flow) and UI tests (Compose Testing)
  • Help monitor production health via Crashlytics / Sentry
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions / Bitbucket Pipelines) — automated testing, lint checks, release workflows
  • Debug real issues: ANRs, race conditions, memory leaks (with support)

Collaboration

  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical design docs
  • Collaborate with product, backend, QA, design, and ML teams
  • Communicate technical trade-offs clearly

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 1–3 years of Android development experience (strong new grads with solid project work considered)
  • Kotlin as primary language — good proficiency with coroutines, Flow, sealed classes, extension functions
  • Solid understanding of the Android lifecycle , configuration changes, and awareness of process death
  • Working experience with Jetpack Compose — recomposition, state hoisting, basic side effects, Compose Navigation
  • Hands-on with Coroutines & Flow — structured concurrency, StateFlow, viewModelScope, cancellation basics
  • Understanding of clean architecture (UI → ViewModel → UseCase → Repository → DataSource) in a multi-module setup
  • Familiarity with dependency injection (Hilt or Koin)
  • Experience with networkingKtor Client (our modern, coroutine-native, KMP-ready direction) with interceptors/plugins, auth handling, and centralized error management
  • Solid understanding of local storage — Room for structured data, DataStore for preferences
  • Proficiency with Git , branching strategies, and basic CI/CD
  • Experience with unit testing — JUnit, Mockk/Mockito
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an ownership mindset

Note on networking: We standardize on Ktor Client (Kotlin-first, coroutine-native, KMP-ready). Retrofit experience is welcome and you'll encounter it in some legacy modules, but it is not the direction we're investing in.

Soft Skills

  • End-to-end ownership — you see your features through to production
  • Clear technical communication — can explain trade-offs and write basic design notes
  • Comfort with ambiguity — can break down a feature into actionable tasks (with help on the big calls)
  • Learning mindset — you actively level up toward SDE-2 expectations

Good to Have

  • Awareness of Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) — shared business logic across Android/iOS
  • Experience with kotlinx.serialization for JSON
  • Familiarity with Baseline Profiles / Macrobenchmark and general performance awareness
  • Exposure to SDK / library development — AAR publishing, public API design, semantic versioning
  • Experience in fintech, identity verification, KYC/AML, or security-focused applications
  • Hands-on with CameraX / Camera2 for document capture or face detection
  • Exposure to on-device ML — TensorFlow Lite, ML Kit, or Google AI Edge SDK (Gemini Nano)
  • Knowledge of image processing basics on mobile (cropping, perspective correction, quality assessment)
  • Experience with WebView security hardening (JavaScript interface restrictions, certificate pinning)
  • Has used AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) effectively with critical review
  • Familiarity with iOS development (SwiftUI/UIKit) is a bonus for cross-platform collaboration

What Sets This Role Apart

  • Not just another app — you're contributing to SDKs used by hundreds of enterprise clients across banking and fintech
  • AI + Mobile intersection — work at the edge of on-device ML, document understanding, and liveness detection
  • Scale — your code runs in a platform processing millions of identity verification sessions
  • Growth — clear architecture/SDK/performance ramp toward SDE-2, with senior engineers to learn from
  • Modern stack — Compose-first, Kotlin-first, Ktor-based, with a clear path toward KMP for cross-platform
