OpenEvidence is the most widely used medical AI platform in the world.

In just over a year, our usage has grown to >65% of US clinicians via product-led word of mouth adoption. We are a $12B company with a 30 person engineering team from MIT, Harvard, and Stanford. We believe world-changing products come from a small group of exceptional, autonomous builders, organized along focused objectives and empowered to take individual ownership and run fast. We are growing our team to seize a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to define the default platform for medical AI. If you are a world-class engineer or scientist looking to define the bleeding edge and deliver concrete outcomes that impact hundreds of millions of lives, we want to talk.

Culture

We believe work is something that should be engaged with at a world-class level. Building 0->1 and scaling 1->1000 are professional sports, and uncompromising excellence is the bar. We believe building technologies that haven't existed is only possible with end to end ownership. We don't have separate product managers–every engineer and scientist is responsible for landing major improvements to the product. Important things are accomplished when an individual decides to accomplish them.

We believe that work should be hard. We believe good work is precise and intentional. There are no sacred cows. Doing something a certain way just because that's how others are doing it guarantees mediocrity. We believe the quality of the product is paramount and the smallest details matter most. At the same time, developer and product velocity are essential. The best engineers know how to jump right to the hardest part of the problem and take every possible shortcut while keeping the user experience pristine. We believe an engineer's job is to complete and announce important projects and demonstrate their impact, or fail fast and pivot.

Who are you?

If you are looking to complete tickets 9-5 that someone else assigns, this job is not for you. If you are looking to write papers, this job is not for you. If you are looking to lean in and get your hands dirty, bruised, and bloody making something from nothing, personally impact hundreds of millions of lives, and drive ten figures of revenue, this job might be for you.

The ideal candidate is a brilliant builder. They are smart, ambitious, scrappy, autonomous, precise, motivated, hard-working, and low-ego. Does that sound rare? It is rare, we have only found 30 of them, and we would like to find more.

Skillsets

Specific skillsets are secondary, but some important spikes for different facets of our work are:

Machine learning

  • You have experience pushing the boundaries of what modern models are capable of.
  • You have a background in research, but find yourself drawn to actually making things instead of writing papers, and want real ownership and autonomy to build the future.
  • Evaluation and quantitative proof are first-class citizens to you.

Applied AI

  • You excel at building end-to-end systems grounded in a strong intuition about how to leverage modern models as components of extremely thoughtful, intentional systems.

Fullstack

  • You love building end-to-end and seeing ideas through to completion.
  • The concept of creating something with your own two hands and then seeing that used and loved by millions of the most discerning users in the world is highly motivating.

Frontend and/or mobile

  • You are personally in control of the direct user experience. You have extreme attention to detail, and strive to make beautiful, modern, intentional interfaces.
  • You might have experience building beautiful mobile apps that users find to be a joy to use.

Infrastructure / site reliability

  • Every single moment of downtime for a service used in literally life or death moments is something you want to personally eliminate.
  • You thrive building robust, optimized backends for mission-critical domains.

Speed

  • You know that improving speed doesn’t just make things faster, it can completely transform the user experience.
  • You enjoy tracking down and optimizing away every single source of inefficiency to create magical experiences for users.

Our engineering team is in-person 5 days a week in SF and Miami. We believe in creating an environment that optimizes for focus and productivity, including providing meals, transport and anything else you need to move quickly.
