Principal Infrastructure Engineers within Enterprise Modernization, Platforms and Cloud (EMPC) at Thoughtworks are strategic technical leaders and trusted advisors who direct solution architecture and enterprise infrastructure strategy for complex, large-scale modernizations. Operating at the intersection of executive business vision and deep technical execution, you guide client leaders through platform engineering, cloud modernization, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) initiatives. You foster a culture of technical excellence, mentor cross-functional delivery teams, and champion robust DevOps, DevSecOps, and continuous delivery practices. Ultimately, you are responsible for establishing resilient, modern infrastructure foundations and driving systemic change across enterprise accounts.
Job responsibilities
You will act as a trusted technical advisor to senior client executives, guiding multi-year infrastructure strategy, platform engineering, and cloud transformation roadmaps underthe EMPC practice.
You will lead collaborative architectural design and implementation grounded in well-architected framework principles to deliver enterprise-scale hosting platforms, cloud-native environments, and resilient infrastructure systems.
You will champion DevOps philosophies, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), continuous delivery for infrastructure, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across clientengagements.
You will assess complex legacy ecosystems and design modern technical roadmaps to eliminate architectural constraints, platform vulnerabilities, and scalability bottlenecks.
You will establish enterprise DevSecOps frameworks, embedding secrets management, compliance controls, and supply chain security into automated delivery pipelines.
You will collaborate with account leadership and client stakeholders to navigate technical trade-offs, manage strategic operational risks, and ensure alignment with businessgoals.
You will lead the adoption of emerging technical capabilities, including AI-assisted infrastructure automation, self-healing architectures, and modern multi-cloud telemetryframeworks.
You will cultivate Thoughtworker growth and development by mentoring lead and senior infrastructure engineers, encouraging feedback, and fostering an inclusive team culture.
You will help shape Thoughtworks' cloud and infrastructure practice through collaboration with business development, marketing, and capability development teams.
You will establish comprehensive observability standards across client platforms, incorporating distributed tracing, centralized logging, application metrics, and self-healing systems.
Job qualifications
Technical Skills
You have an extensive track record in platform engineering, legacy modernization, and cloud architecture across major IaaS platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and enterprise container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
You possess deep technical mastery in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g.,Terraform, CloudFormation), automated configuration management, and modern CI/CD delivery pipelines.
You bring expertise in enterprise networking, platform vulnerability management, zero-trust security paradigms, and software supply chain security.
You have hands-on experience designing and implementing observability systems, multi-cloud resilience and Site Reliability Engineering.
You bring an open and thoughtful mindset toward emerging technologies and AI, proactively exploring AI-assisted platform automation, predictive operations, and intelligent telemetry.
Professional Skills
You excel at navigating complex ambiguity, making sound architectural decisions under pressure, and skillfully managing systemic technical and operational risks.
You are comfortable partnering directly with executive leadership (CTO, CIO, VP of Engineering) to design technical strategies while simultaneously serving as a hands-on technical advisor to engineering groups.
