At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Market Vets, part of ivc, is looking for an ambitious and commercially focused Director of Practice to lead two closely located practices and play a key role in their continued growth and success.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced people and business leader who enjoys bringing together people, performance and commercial strategy. You don't need a clinical background, we're looking for someone who can inspire and develop teams, spot opportunities, make sound commercial decisions and create an environment where both people and the business can thrive.

Lead Two Practices and a Great Team

You'll provide leadership across more than 40 colleagues, spanning veterinary, nursing, client care, reception and administration teams.

Your role will be about bringing people together, creating a positive and high-performing culture and ensuring everyone has the support, direction and opportunities they need to do their best work.

You'll work closely with the Clinical Directors, combining your business and operational expertise with their clinical leadership to deliver an excellent experience for clients, patients and colleagues.

Shape the Future

With a competitive local market, you'll have plenty of scope to make a real commercial impact.

You'll identify opportunities to grow the practices, strengthen client relationships and improve retention, while ensuring we continue to deliver an outstanding service. You'll take ownership of the P&L, annual business planning and budgets, using insight and data to drive sustainable performance.

You'll also play a key role in shaping the longer-term strategy for both practices, turning ideas into action and helping Market Vets continue to build on its success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational, commercial and financial performance of both practices, working in partnership with the Clinical Directors to achieve business and clinical objectives
  • Take ownership of P&L performance, annual business planning and budget management
  • Identify commercial opportunities and drive sustainable business growth within a competitive local market
  • Build, engage and develop a high-performing team of more than 40 colleagues across clinical and non-clinical functions
  • Lead resource planning, performance management, coaching and colleague development
  • Support excellent client engagement, retention and overall client experience
  • Ensure high standards of clinical governance, regulatory compliance and patient care in partnership with clinical leadership
  • Drive continuous improvement and support the implementation of wider business initiatives and best practice
  • Champion a safe, compliant and collaborative working environment across both practices

Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility around working hours between 8:30am and 6:00pm.

You’ll spend time across both practices, which are conveniently located close to one another.

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You are an experienced operational leader with strong commercial acumen and a people-centred approach to leadership. You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in a leadership role with accountability for operational and commercial performance
  • Strong financial and business management capability, including experience of budgeting, business planning and P&L oversight
  • The ability to identify commercial opportunities and translate them into sustainable business growth
  • Experience leading, engaging and developing large multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong coaching and people management skills with the ability to build a positive, high-performing culture
  • Experience leading through change and driving continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively alongside clinical leadership

  • Leadership of two established practices with the autonomy to shape strategy, culture and performance

  • Private medical insurance
  • Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy
  • Pension scheme
  • Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies)
  • Retail discounts and cashback offers
