We are hiring Staff Software Engineers across several teams within the Developer Infrastructure group in Platform. You'll own the tools and systems every Coinbase engineer depends on to build and ship software. This team is responsible for scalable CI and build infrastructure and deployment orchestration, where a single improvement compounds across thousands of engineers. You'll set technical direction for the group's most complex, cross-cutting problems and lead their delivery from ambiguous problem statements through production operation.
What you'll do:
- Own core developer infrastructure platforms, including CI/build systems and deployment orchestration, across the full lifecycle from design through production operation.
- Identify the group's highest-leverage problems, turn ambiguous and unscoped challenges into concrete technical roadmaps, and drive alignment across dependent teams.
- Drive step-change improvements to the metrics every engineer feels: build and CI wall time, deploy speed and safety, and developer feedback latency.
- Lead strategic, cross-cutting initiatives end to end, including large-scale platform migrations, landing them across many teams alongside the engineers doing the work.
- Raise the reliability bar for developer infrastructure by owning SLOs, observability, and on-call, designing systems that recover fast rather than cascade into company-wide incidents.
- Partner with engineering customers, EMs, and leadership across Coinbase to shape technical strategy and drive org-wide adoption of what you build, while mentoring engineers through design review, pairing, and shared ownership.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 8+ years building and operating production distributed systems, with hands-on proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language and direct experience in CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling.
- Track record of designing and shipping high-impact backend or platform systems that many engineers and services depend on, owning them from ambiguous problem statements through long-term production operation.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives: setting architectural direction, driving org-wide alignment, and making decisions that held up at scale, while staying close enough to the code to lead by example.
- Deep operational expertise with production systems where downtime has a broad blast radius, including designing for reliability, observability, and fast recovery from day one.
- Proven ability to drive alignment on ambiguous, cross-functional problems and to raise the technical bar around you through mentorship, design review, and clear written and verbal communication.
- Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
