Most promotion cases are lost on evidence, not on merit
Keep a running document of what you shipped, what it changed, and who else it helped, updated monthly while you still remember the details. When the review arrives you are assembling a case from notes rather than trying to reconstruct nine months from memory. The people who get promoted are frequently just the ones who could show their work.
