Job Summary

The CNC/VMC/HMC Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining CNC (Computer Numerical Control), VMC (Vertical Machining Center), and HMC (Horizontal Machining Center) machines to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC, VMC, and HMC machines.

• Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.

• Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices.

• Monitor machine operations and adjust offsets when required.

• Perform dimensional inspections using measuring instruments such as:

  • Vernier calipers

  • Micrometers

  • Height gauges

  • Dial indicators

  • Bore gauges

• Ensure parts meet quality specifications and tolerances.

• Conduct routine machine maintenance and cleaning.

• Identify and report machine malfunctions or quality issues.

• Follow production schedules and meet target output.

• Maintain workplace safety and adhere to company procedures.

• Record production and inspection data accurately.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of CNC machining processes.

• Understanding of VMC and HMC machine operations.

• Ability to read technical drawings and GD&T symbols.

• Familiarity with measuring instruments and inspection techniques.

• Basic understanding of tooling, feeds, and speeds.

• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

• Attention to detail and quality awareness.

Qualifications

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, Machinist, or related field.

• 1–5 years of experience in CNC/VMC/HMC machine operation (depending on position level).

• Freshers may be considered for trainee operator positions.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing or machine shop environment.

• Rotational shifts may be required.

• Standing for extended periods and handling machine components.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi Electric.

• Knowledge of tool offset setting and basic CNC programming.

• Experience in automotive, aerospace, precision engineering, or general machining industries.

Typical Salary (India)

• Trainee Operator: ₹12,000–₹18,000/month

• Operator: ₹18,000–₹30,000/month

• Senior Operator: ₹30,000–₹45,000+/month
