About the role
We're looking for a hands on QA Lead who sees quality as a product problem, not just a testing problem. This isn't a traditional QA role focused solely on executing test cases or building automation frameworks. Instead, you'll own quality end-to-end, sitting between Product and Engineering to ensure we ship fast without compromising user experience.
You'll be given problems, not step-by-step instructions. We need someone who is highly autonomous, product-minded, engineering-oriented, and AI-native. We are looking for someone who can identify where quality risks exist, decide how best to solve them, and implement the right processes, tooling, and testing strategy.
You'll shape how quality is approached across the business, introducing AI-enabled testing practices, improving release confidence, coordinating an outsourced QA function, and defining where manual testing, automation, and production monitoring each provide the most value. While experience with Playwright and test automation is important, we're not looking for a pure automation engineer—we're looking for someone who understands the bigger picture of delivering exceptional products.
What You'll Do 🎯
- Own quality across the entire product lifecycle, from feature design through to production monitoring,
- Develop and execute a modern QA strategy that balances manual testing, automation, and production observability.
- Introduce AI-powered tools and workflows to improve testing efficiency, coverage, and speed.
- Build and maintain end-to-end automated test suites.
- Decide where manual exploratory testing delivers the highest value and ensure critical user journeys are thoroughly validated.
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to identify risks early and embed quality into development rather than treating it as a final step.
What You'll Bring 💡
- Strong experience owning software quality in modern product teams.
- Experience balancing manual testing, automation, and production monitoring rather than specialising exclusively in one area.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated tests, ideally using Playwright.
- A solid understanding of modern QA practices, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and testing strategies.
- Experience introducing AI tools or AI-assisted workflows into software testing and quality processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence Product and Engineering teams through data and practical decision-making.
What Makes You a Great Fit 🌟
- You naturally move between product discussions and technical implementation.
- You're excited by using AI to rethink how QA should work rather than simply doing QA faster.
- You know when automation is the right answer and when manual testing creates more value.
- You thrive in ambiguous environments where you're trusted to figure things out rather than follow predefined processes.
- You're pragmatic, highly autonomous, and motivated by solving real customer problems.
- You enjoy building systems, improving processes, and leaving the quality function in a significantly better place than you found it.
