About the Role
At Pavago, one of our clients is hiring a Ruby on Rails Developer to build, maintain, and optimize scalable production web applications and APIs.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, background jobs, performance, and clean, well-tested code.
You’ll work with product and engineering teams to ship reliable features, improve application performance, and maintain systems built for scale.
What You’ll Own
Ruby on Rails Development
- Build and maintain production Ruby on Rails applications
- Develop backend services, business logic, and internal tools
- Work with Ruby, Rails, ActiveRecord, and MVC architecture
- Build reusable, maintainable services following Rails best practices
- Integrate with front-end technologies such as Stimulus, React, or Vue.js
APIs & Integrations
- Design and maintain RESTful APIs
- Integrate third-party APIs, SaaS platforms, and payment systems
- Build and maintain webhooks and background synchronization jobs
- Implement authentication, authorization, and rate limiting
PostgreSQL & Background Jobs
- Design and maintain PostgreSQL/MySQL schemas
- Optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database performance
- Build asynchronous workflows using Sidekiq/Resque
- Work with Redis and caching strategies to improve performance
Testing & Code Quality
- Write unit, integration, and system tests using RSpec, Minitest, or Capybara
- Maintain clean, readable, and well-tested code
- Participate in code reviews and CI/CD workflows
- Help reduce technical debt and improve long-term maintainability
Performance, Security & Reliability
- Troubleshoot production issues and performance bottlenecks
- Improve API response times and background job performance
- Follow secure development and OWASP best practices
- Monitor application health using tools such as New Relic, Datadog, Honeybadger, or Rollbar
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional Ruby on Rails development experience
- Strong proficiency in Ruby, Rails, ActiveRecord, and MVC
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs
- Experience with Sidekiq or Resque
- Familiarity with Redis, caching, and background processing
- Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong understanding of scalable backend application development
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working remotely during U.S. business hours
Nice to Have
- React, Vue.js, or Stimulus experience
- AWS, GCP, or Heroku deployment experience
- SaaS, fintech, healthcare, or e-commerce background
- Experience with Devise or OmniAuth
- Experience optimizing high-traffic Rails applications
