We're now going far beyond our core business, aiming to eliminate bureaucracy and admin in hospitals with a whole portfolio of AI products.

What you'll work on

Aftercare provider operations are becoming increasingly complex and data driven. Bringing change is very hard, but we're not afraid. You'll build features that help care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and healthcare chains better allocate resources, unlock actionable insights from patient data, and integrate Recare seamlessly into their internal systems.

Our ambitious roadmap focuses on expanding our marketplace's receiver side with enhanced analytics tools, B2C platforms connecting providers directly with patients, expanded API integrations, and much more.

Secure communication is at our core. Our solution provides end to end encryption for healthcare professionals to safely exchange messages and patient data through both our applications and external API integrations.

In this role, you will:

• Own a domain inside our core Go codebase, contributing to architecture decisions and code quality within your area
• Work inside a well structured system with some standalone services around the edges, including an on premise gateway for hospital integrations, rather than a sprawling microservices estate
• Step in and keep things moving when your lead is away, taking ownership with confidence rather than waiting for instruction
• Contribute to pull requests, reviews, and technical discussions as a trusted senior voice on your team

We have several products in development that we are confident will significantly impact the German healthcare system. And yes, we're excited by the new opportunities AI unlocks for building powerful features for our customers and our own workflow.

What technologies you'll work with

• Golang. Our entire backend codebase is in Golang, and we love it. It's easy to learn, it's strongly typed, the internal tooling is fantastic, and it compiles fast.
• Postgres. We use Postgres for our databases and GORM to interface with it.
• CI and DevOps. We use both CircleCI and GitHub Actions to run our unit and integration tests, visual regression tests built in house, and automated code analysis through SonarCloud. They're also used to deploy to our various environments.

We also dedicate some of our time to work on non business tasks, which means for instance:

• Continuously optimising the backend code to offer the best user experience
• Analysing and improving database slowdowns and issues
• Internal automation, because we want to make our lives easier
• Building additional tooling, such as performance profiling tools to identify bottlenecks in backend services and optimise resource usage

Our philosophy is that developers are owners of the code they write until it gets to production. We rely a lot on automated tests to ensure everything stays stable. The rule is that code could be deployed at any time, and manual QA is only involved in new feature validation.

Your responsibilities as a Senior Backend Engineer will include

• Technical Ownership. Own a domain inside our Go codebase, contribute to architectural decisions and code quality within your area, identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies and suggest or implement improvements.
• Stepping Up When Needed. Be ready to take charge of priorities and keep things moving if your lead is away, supporting and mentoring other engineers along the way without needing to manage a team.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration. Work closely with product and design to translate business needs into technical solutions, and communicate technical progress, risks and trade-offs clearly.
• Delivery. Ship reliably against the team's roadmap, help break down features into deliverable tasks, and identify and remove blockers as they come up.
• Building With AI. We are an AI company now, and that shows up in how we expect people to work, not just what we build. Use AI tooling as a genuine part of your day to day, whether that is accelerating how you write and review code, prototyping ideas faster, or finding smarter ways to work. We do not expect you to vibe code everything end to end, plenty of our best engineers still want to write the core of what they ship themselves and use AI to speed things up around the edges. What matters is real curiosity about where this is heading, not scepticism about whether any of this changes how software gets built.

What you will need to succeed as a Senior Backend Engineer:

• We are looking for experienced developers. You have a CS degree or equivalent knowledge, and you have been coding full time professionally for 4 to 5 plus years
• We're looking for someone with production experience in Golang, or another C family language with a real, demonstrable ability to operate in Go without hand holding
• You have some experience supporting or mentoring other engineers, and you are looking for a strong individual contributor role rather than a path into people management
• You want to become a technical owner of part of our codebase. We need people who are looking for responsibility, just not a team to manage
• You are a clear, confident communicator, comfortable being put on the spot in a conversation and able to think out loud rather than defaulting to async only communication when something needs a real time answer
• Since Product and Engineering work in a fully remote setup, writing skills matter more and more, so written questions, requirements, and docs are genuinely valuable
• You should be comfortable and excited to dive into more advanced topics, for example build pipelines, caching mechanisms, and database optimisation
• Since we're a small team, we want to automate a lot. You should have experience with CI and testing frameworks
• You are proactive and proficient across the entire product development flow, asking questions, clarifying specs, raising doubts, and engaging in meetings
• Healthcare experience is a bonus, not a requirement. FHIR, HL7, or DICOM exposure is great to have, but we have hired strong engineers from fintech, insurtech, and other compliance heavy domains with zero healthcare background who did just fine
• You are genuinely excited about what AI can do for engineering. We don't expect every line of code to be AI generated, but we do expect curiosity and a real point of view on where this is heading
