About the role:

We are hiring for the Self-Managed domain, which owns the full software development lifecycle of our self-managed product artifacts.

This includes everything from the getting started experience to production deployments and day-2 operations.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual contributor who thrives on ownership and technical depth - someone eager to push our artifacts and processes to the next level. You’ll find plenty of room to leave your own footprint and tackle challenges around deployment automation, software and infrastructure testing, multi-region setups, and developer experience.

Curious about the kind of challenges you'll work on at Camunda? Watch this quick 30-minute talk from our engineers to learn more about the new Camunda Exporter and how we’re solving complex problems at scale

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Build, maintain, and release C8 distributions for our self-managed customers, covering Helm Charts (Kubernetes), C8Run, Docker Compose, and related documentation.
  • Improve reliability and usability of our deployment artifacts, ensuring a seamless experience from local setups to production clusters and day-2 operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Development Teams, Product Management, Quality Assurance, Documentation, and Support to deliver integrated, tested, and documented releases.
  • Handle engineering-level support cases together with our support team to understand our customers issues and feed learnings back into development.
  • Drive documentation and onboarding improvements - turning complex systems into clear, accessible instructions that help customers succeed faster.

The Distribution team currently consists of 1 Senior and 3 Mid-level Software Engineers, operating with a strong manager-of-one mindset and cross-team collaboration.

What success looks like:

After your first three months, you have:

  • Take on your first medic and support tickets to understand our stack, customer challenges, and deployment environments.
  • Improved onboarding and documentation, transforming your own learning experience into concrete improvements.
  • Contributed to artifact fixes, CI/CD enhancements, or test automation to strengthen our release quality.
  • Delivered one structural improvement initiative, such as a smaller feature request, a test or release improvement.
  • Established strong working relationships with engineering, QA, and product peers - demonstrating ownership, manager-of-one and clarity in communication.

What You Bring:

  • Ability and/or willingness to use our product
  • Strong expertise in building, operating, and maintaining Helm Charts; deploying applications on Kubernetes; implementing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions; and managing infrastructure as code, e.g. through Terraform.
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation and communicate effectively across teams.
  • A pragmatic and autonomous approach to programming and problem solving.
  • You thrive as a manager of one - you build it, you own it - and take pride in delivering maintainable, operable software.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience running and operating on-prem/self-hosted software on Docker
  • Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tools.
  • Working knowledge of the Go programming language.
