RRB Group D

Railway Recruitment Board Level 1 (Group D) Recruitment

RRB covers Level 1 recruitment through which Railway Recruitment Boards fill track maintainer, pointsman, assistant and helper posts across Indian Railways departments. It is one of the highest-vacancy recruitment drives in the country and is open to candidates whose highest qualification is class 10 or an ITI certificate.

RRB Group D at a glance

  • Railway Recruitment Board Level 1 (Group D) Recruitment, conducted by Railway Recruitment Board.
  • Open at 10th / iti level.
  • Selection runs through 4 stages: Computer Based Test → Physical Efficiency Test → Document Verification → Medical Examination.

Who is eligible for RRB Group D?

RRB requires a pass in class 10, or a National Apprenticeship Certificate, or an ITI certificate from a recognised institution, depending on the post. Candidates must also meet the medical standards for their chosen post, which differ between track-side and workshop roles and are checked at the final stage.

What is the age limit for RRB Group D?

RRB age limits are published in each notification and reckoned as on a specified date rather than the application month. Relaxation applies for reserved categories, ex-servicemen and serving railway employees. Because Level 1 cycles run several years apart, the age band and its as-on date change materially between notifications.

What is the RRB Group D selection process?

RRB selection runs through a single computer-based test, followed by a physical efficiency test, document verification and a medical examination. The physical test sets different lifting and running standards for men and women, and it is qualifying rather than scored, so merit rests on the written result.

Selection stages in order

  1. 1 Computer Based Test
  2. 2 Physical Efficiency Test
  3. 3 Document Verification
  4. 4 Medical Examination

Frequently asked questions

Is the RRB Group D physical test scored or qualifying?

The physical efficiency test is qualifying only. A candidate must meet the lifting and running standards set for their gender to stay in the process, but the result adds nothing to their merit position, which is decided by the computer-based test score alone.
