The Engineering Intern (Master's Level) will join Western Digital's Head Backend Business Unit for a structured 3-6 month internship at the Thailand site (THO). This role is designed for graduate students who bring advanced engineering knowledge and research experience, and who are expected to contribute at a higher technical level than undergraduate interns.
Interns will be embedded in the THO Engineering organization, assigned a senior engineer mentor, and expected to lead a defined technical project with measurable outcomes. High-performing interns will be considered for conversion to the ECT - under the BEST Program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting a defined engineering or process improvement project with clear scope and deliverables
- Applying graduate-level technical knowledge to real manufacturing challenges in slider/HGA operations
- Performing data analysis, technical documentation, and experiment design under mentor guidance
- Presenting findings to engineering team at mid-point and program close
- Contributing technical insights that can be carried forward post-internship
- Participating in structured learning sessions, assessments, and IDP-lite conversations
REQUIRED:
- Currently pursuing in Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- Completed Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline
- Strong academic record with active thesis or research project
- Available for 3-6 months structured internship
PREFERRED:
- Thesis or research project related to manufacturing, materials, process optimization, or precision engineering
- Experience with experimental design, statistical analysis, or process simulation
- Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or quality engineering methodologies
- Prior industry internship or research collaboration with a manufacturing firm
SKILLS:
- Advanced technical problem-solving and research skills
- Data analysis proficiency (Minitab, Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)
- Strong written and verbal English communication
- Ability to independently manage a project workstream
- Collaborative and professional conduct in a manufacturing environment
