SSC applies no negative marking in Session-I, which covers numerical and reasoning ability, so candidates can attempt every question without penalty. Session-II, testing general awareness and English, deducts one mark for each wrong answer. This asymmetry means candidates should answer all of Session-I confidently while being more selective and cautious while attempting Session-II questions.

SSC sets no upper qualification limit, so a graduate or postgraduate can apply as long as they meet the minimum requirement of having passed Class 10. Many candidates use this exam as an entry point into central government service before attempting higher-level exams later, since the only fixed educational bar for this recruitment is the Matriculation pass certificate.

SSC recruits Multi-Tasking Staff for general office duties like cleaning, carrying files, and running errands across various ministries, while Havaldar is a uniformed post specifically under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and the Central Bureau of Narcotics, involving more physical duties and requiring candidates to additionally clear a Physical Efficiency and Physical Standard Test.

SSC places no restriction on the number of attempts; a candidate may apply in every recruitment cycle as long as the age and educational eligibility criteria are met on the notified cut-off date. Since the upper age limit is relatively low compared to other exams, most candidates realistically get only a handful of genuine attempts before ageing out.

SSC offers its computer-based exam in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, among others. This wide language coverage makes the exam far more accessible to candidates from non-Hindi, non-English speaking states, unlike several other central government recruitment exams with narrower language options.
