About the Role
We’re looking for a commercial attorney to join a fast-growing legal team and advise on a broad range of commercial and technology matters.
The role will initially focus on data licensing, inbound technology transactions, marketing, procurement, and commercial contracts. You’ll work closely with business and technical teams, translating legal and contractual risks into practical recommendations.
As the business grows, you’ll have the opportunity to take on increasingly sophisticated matters and expand your legal remit.
What You’ll Do
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, particularly data licensing, marketing, and technology agreements.
- Support vendor, partnership, statement of work, NDA, and other commercial contracts.
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual and legal risks in a clear, business-focused manner.
- Develop a strong understanding of products, business operations, technology, and data flows.
- Address novel legal and commercial questions using sound judgment and appropriate escalation.
- Develop contract templates, negotiation playbooks, fallback positions, and self-service resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve contract review, legal intake, automation, and knowledge management using AI and technology.
- Help build scalable legal processes as the company's commercial activities become more complex.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Strong academic credentials and foundational legal training.
- Significant experience drafting and negotiating sophisticated commercial and technology agreements.
- Experience with contracts involving data, software, technology, or intellectual property.
- Excellent legal judgment and ability to distinguish material business risk from theoretical risk.
- Ability to quickly understand technical products, business models, and unfamiliar legal issues.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and adaptability.
- High ownership and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, asynchronous environment.
